Walled family compounds grouped into rectangular blocks are the basic unit of the town. They give the map a dense, even texture of small courtyards.

Te mapa
Ouro Sogui lies in the Matam Region of north-eastern Senegal, close to the regional capital, Matam, and to the Senegal River valley that forms the border with Mauritania. The surrounding country is flat and dry for much of the year. The river's floodplain brings seasonal green to the land nearby.
From above, the town is a broad pattern of rectangular blocks, many made up of walled family compounds with courtyards. Wide sandy streets divide them. A main road crosses the town and connects it to Matam and to the national route along the valley. The layout is fairly regular, especially in the newer districts at the edges.
The area belongs to the Fouta, a region with deep Pulaar traditions, and many families here have members living abroad. An Ouro Sogui map poster shows the calm geometry of a Sahel town. Open ground and tracks fade out toward the river and the bush, leaving the town as a clear, orderly shape in the middle of the frame.

A main road crosses the town and links it to nearby Matam and the wider valley. Much of the town's commerce is concentrated along it.
Beyond the built area, the land slopes gently toward the Senegal River floodplain, shown as open ground crossed by faint tracks.
