Oviedo sits in a basin in central Asturias, and from above its structure is easy to read. A tight knot of medieval lanes gathers around the cathedral square, and around it spread the straighter, more generous streets of the city that grew with industry and the railway in the nineteenth century. To the north, the green mass of Monte Naranco rises steeply and marks the edge of the built area.
The capital of the Principality of Asturias has a long record as a seat of kings. In the ninth century it was the capital of the Kingdom of Asturias, and the pre-Romanesque churches of Santa María del Naranco and San Miguel de Lillo, on the lower slopes of the mountain, survive from that period. Each autumn the Princess of Asturias Awards bring international attention to the city's Teatro Campoamor.
On paper the contrast is clear: an irregular medieval core, the long line of Calle Uría running from the station toward the park, and newer districts filling the valley floor and climbing the surrounding hills. An Oviedo map poster keeps that layered order in view, with the dense centre, the open green of the park and the curving roads that wrap around the city's edges.
The irregular streets of the medieval centre close in around the Cathedral of San Salvador and its plaza, forming a small, dense patch of lanes that stands out against the broader blocks nearby.
A large wooded park sits right beside the old town, a soft green block with winding paths set between the historic core and the straight commercial streets to the west.
North of the city the mountain rises abruptly, and the map shows streets giving way to steep, looping roads that climb toward the pre-Romanesque monuments on its lower slopes.

Koteā ko Oviedo
Oviedo tends to stay with people who studied, married or spent a quiet stretch of years there. A print of its streets holds the walk from the cathedral to the park, or the view from the Naranco slopes, in one calm and legible image.
The poster can be personalised with your own title, a subtitle such as a date, and a coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then download the HD files for $9 or order a matte print, with an optional wooden frame.
