Te mapa
Palo Negro is the seat of Libertador municipality in the Venezuelan state of Aragua, just south of Maracay on the fertile plain around Lake Valencia. The terrain is flat, and on a map the town appears as a spreading network of residential blocks and main avenues, bordered on one side by the long runways of a military airfield and on others by farmland.
The airfield is El Libertador Air Base, one of the principal installations of the Venezuelan air force, and its runways occupy a large share of the surrounding land. The area has grown steadily as part of the Maracay metropolitan zone, with neighbourhoods built out toward the agricultural valley that has long supplied the region with crops.
A Palo Negro map poster shows the contrast between the town's fine residential grain and the bold straight lines of the air base. Main roads lead north toward Maracay, and the plain opens out to the south and west. The composition is clear and balanced, a portrait of a town defined by its level ground and wide horizons.
The long runways and taxiways of El Libertador Air Base form a crisp geometric shape beside the town, the most striking element of the map.
Blocks of houses fill the urban area in a fairly regular pattern, crossed by a few wider avenues that carry traffic through the town.
Main routes lead north into Maracay, linking Palo Negro with the state capital and showing how closely the two now form one urban area.
