Pariquera-Açu is in the Vale do Ribeira, in the southern part of São Paulo state. It is one of the greenest and least urbanised areas of the state. The map shows a tidy town on low ground, surrounded by farmland, streams and the broken edges of forest that covers much of the region.
The centre is laid out on a fairly regular grid of rectangular blocks, easy to read even at small print sizes. Main roads run out to nearby towns in the valley. At the edges, the pattern turns into farm roads and the curving lines of the local watercourses.
