Te mapa
Paxos lies in the Ionian Sea south of Corfu, a small island only a few kilometres wide. From above it is almost completely covered by olive groves, crossed by narrow lanes and stone walls, with one main road along its length. The west coast is a high wall of limestone cliffs and caves. The east faces the mainland and has small, sheltered inlets.
Each of the island's three villages sits on one of those eastern inlets. Gaios, the main port, lies behind two small islets that form a narrow channel for boats. Loggos is a tight cluster around a tiny harbour, and Lakka, in the north, sits at the head of a round, almost enclosed bay. A Paxos map poster captures all three as dense points along a quiet shoreline.
A local myth says Poseidon struck Corfu with his trident to break off a quieter home, and that piece of land became Paxos. The island has long been known for its olive oil. To the south lies its tiny neighbour Antipaxos, reached by boat and known for clear, shallow bays.

A nearly circular bay at the northern tip, sheltered and shallow, with the village at its head. It gives the island's outline a distinctive rounded notch.
The west coast drops steeply into the sea, with caves and natural arches that can only be reached by boat. This untouched edge balances the villages on the other side.

Koteā ko Paxos
Paxos is the kind of island people return to, often by yacht or on a day trip that turned into a week. A poster keeps the place's small scale intact: three harbours, a web of olive lanes, and cliffs on the other side.
