Te mapa
Peer lies in the Kempen region of Belgian Limburg, a landscape of sandy soil, pine woods and open heath. On a map the town appears as a small, dense core where several roads meet, surrounded by a much looser pattern of farm lanes, forest tracks and village centers. The municipality takes in several villages, so the frame shows clusters of streets rather than one continuous town.
The villages include Grote-Brogel, and the town has long pointed to the local tradition that links the painter Pieter Bruegel to Brogel. That claim is still debated by historians, but it is part of how Peer sees itself. On the edge of the municipality, the Kleine-Brogel air base shows up as a large geometric shape of runways and taxiways set among the trees.
A Peer map poster shows the contrast between the tight medieval center and the open Kempen land around it. Main roads reach out from the square like spokes and gradually turn into straight rural lines. The air base runways add hard geometry to an otherwise soft landscape, which suits a minimalist black-and-white print.
The historic center forms a small, dense knot of streets around the market square, where the main roads from the surrounding villages meet.
Wide areas of forest and heath surround the town, so the map has large quiet spaces between the scattered settlements.
The Kleine-Brogel air base adds long straight runways and angular aprons, a strong graphic contrast to the curving village lanes.
