Piedade lies in the hills of the Sorocaba region in São Paulo state, where the land rises and falls in rounded hills. The town's streets do not follow a strict grid. They bend with the terrain, climbing ridges and following valleys, and the map shows that uneven, adaptive layout clearly.
The municipality is mainly agricultural, and the countryside around the town is divided into many small farms producing vegetables and fruit for the markets of São Paulo and Sorocaba. On the map, the farms appear as a fine network of rural roads spreading through the hills in all directions.
