Te mapa
Pombos lies in the Zona da Mata of Pernambuco, west of Recife, where the coastal plain begins to fold into rolling hills. The terrain shapes the whole map. Streets don't run in long straight lines here. They bend around slopes, climb in short stretches and meet at odd angles, which gives the town a loose, organic outline set among green countryside.
Much of the surrounding land has long been worked for agriculture, and from above the town is edged by fields, small streams and patches of remaining forest. A main road toward the interior passes close by and acts as the spine of the settlement, with the denser centre and its square gathered near it. Newer neighbourhoods spread out along side roads into the hills.
That combination of a strong road axis and irregular hill streets translates well into a minimalist print. The lines thin out toward the edges, leaving plenty of white space that suggests the open country around. A Pombos map poster is a modest, personal object, meant for people who know the town from daily life rather than from a guidebook.
Roads follow the hills instead of a grid, curving and forking so that the street network traces the landscape underneath it.
A main road toward the Pernambuco interior runs past the town and anchors its layout, with the busiest blocks clustered close to it.
Beyond the last houses the map opens into fields and small watercourses, giving the composition a soft, fading border.
