Puente-Genil lies in the south of Córdoba province, where the Genil river winds through olive country. The town was formed in the nineteenth century by merging two settlements on opposite banks, Puente de Don Gonzalo and Miragenil. Its name comes from the bridge that links them. On a map the river curves through the centre, with the streets of each side sloping down to meet it.
Beyond the river, the town spreads across gentle hills, with white houses packed along narrow streets and newer neighbourhoods at the edges. Olive groves stretch in every direction, their parcels laid out in fine rows. Puente-Genil is known throughout Spain for its membrillo, or quince paste, and for a distinctive Holy Week tradition called the Mananta.
A Puente-Genil map poster shows a town defined by its river crossing. The bend of the Genil, the bridge and the two historic halves are all visible at a glance. It is a meaningful piece for people from the town, for families with ties to the local industries, and for anyone who has spent Easter in its streets.
The river curves through the middle of the town, giving the map its strongest line. The streets on each bank descend to its edges.
The crossing that gave the town its name joins the two historic halves. On paper it is a small line, but it is the true centre of the composition.
Olive groves surround the town in neat rows and field boundaries. They give the outer areas of the poster a fine, regular texture.
