Te mapa
Purley lies on the southern edge of Greater London, in the borough of Croydon, where the chalk valleys of the North Downs open out toward the city. From above, it is a meeting point: several main roads, including the Brighton Road and the Godstone Road, converge at Purley Cross, while railway lines branch toward Caterham and Tattenham Corner.
The town grew as a railway suburb, and its map reflects that. The station and the junction of lines sit in the valley floor, and a small commercial centre gathers around the main road junction. From there, residential streets climb the hillsides in long curves and crescents, with detached houses set in large gardens along roads that follow the contours.
Green space surrounds the town, with commons and open downland rising to the south and east. A Purley map poster captures a distinctive suburban geography: roads and railways funnelling into the valleys, the busy junction at the centre and a quiet network of hillside streets spreading outward toward the countryside.

Lines to Caterham and Tattenham Corner branch at Purley, their curving tracks following the valleys. They add strong, sweeping lines to the poster.
Residential roads curve up the chalk slopes in loops and crescents. Their flowing pattern contrasts with the straighter main roads in the valley below.
