Te mapa
P’yŏngsŏng is the capital of South Pyongan Province in North Korea, located a short distance north of Pyongyang. It is a comparatively young city, developed in the second half of the twentieth century, and its map reflects that. It has wide main avenues, large rectangular blocks and a layout that follows a plan rather than the older patterns of village lanes.
The city is associated with science and education, and research institutes and higher education institutions have been based here. It is also known within the country as a trading hub, with a large market that serves the wider region. Little detailed information about the city circulates outside North Korea, so a map is one of the few ways to see its structure clearly.
A P’yŏngsŏng map poster presents the city as a pattern of lines and blocks, free of commentary. It will interest people with family connections to the region, researchers of Korean cities and collectors of unusual maps, and anyone who appreciates how a planned city looks when it is reduced to pure geometry.
Broad main roads cross the city in long, straight runs, forming the strong framework around which the rest of the street pattern is arranged.
Residential and institutional areas are set out in sizeable rectangular blocks. This gives the map a spacious, measured rhythm unlike that of older Korean towns.
The city lies just north of the national capital, and the roads leading south toward it are among the clearest connections visible at the edges of the map.

Koteā ko P’yŏngsŏng
Some maps are hung as memories, others as objects of curiosity. P’yŏngsŏng can be either: a link to family history for some, and for others a rare, clear view of a city that is seldom photographed or written about.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line as you wish, and choose from five styles. Classic black & white and Paper keep the look documentary, Blueprint underlines the planned layout, and Noir or Sand offer a darker or warmer alternative.
