Rhede is in the Borken district of North Rhine-Westphalia, in the flat western Münsterland near the Dutch border. The town has a compact centre, and residential neighbourhoods spread around it on level ground. Beyond them is typical Münsterland countryside: fields, small woods and farmsteads connected by straight lanes. The Bocholter Aa, a small river, crosses the area and adds a soft winding line to the map.
