Te mapa
Rock Springs grew up around coal mines and the Union Pacific railroad in southwestern Wyoming, and the map still shows how it began. The rail line runs roughly east–west through the middle of town beside Bitter Creek, and the oldest streets huddle close to the tracks. Around them the town spreads over low ridges and draws, with neighbourhoods fitted to the uneven ground rather than to a single grid.
Interstate 80 swings through the town in long, smooth arcs that contrast with the tighter blocks downtown. Past the last houses the lines thin out quickly. The surrounding high desert is sparse, marked only by a few ranch roads, dry washes and the outlines of old mining ground. Green River, the seat of Sweetwater County, lies a short drive to the west along the same corridor.
Miners came here from dozens of countries, and Rock Springs still describes itself as a town of many nationalities. Its history also includes the 1885 massacre of Chinese miners, one of the darkest episodes of the American West. A Rock Springs map poster keeps the geography plain: rail line, creek, interstate and the scattered blocks between them, set against a wide and nearly empty field.

Interstate 80 bends through Rock Springs in long arcs, with interchanges feeding the commercial strips that grew up along the highway.
The street network ends abruptly at empty high-desert terrain, so the town appears as a dense island of lines in a wide, almost blank landscape.

Koteā ko Rock Springs
Rock Springs means something specific to families with mining roots, to railroad workers and to anyone who has crossed Wyoming on I-80 and stopped here. A map of the town holds that story quietly, in the line of the tracks and the way the streets cling to them.
