Roermond Map Poster & Print
Roermond takes its name from its setting: the mouth of the Roer, where it flows into the Maas. From above, the historic centre is a tight, roughly oval knot of streets on the east bank of the Maas. The Roer curves along its southern side, and the older city boundaries still show in the shape of the surrounding roads.
North and west of the town lie the Maasplassen, a large group of lakes created by decades of gravel extraction. They are now used for sailing and marinas. The town also has strong links to the architect Pierre Cuypers, who lived and worked here, and to the medieval Munsterkerk. In recent years it has also become known for its large designer outlet.
A Roermond map poster combines two kinds of form: the dense medieval centre and the irregular, fragmented shapes of the lakes. The rivers join them together, which makes this one of the more graphic town maps in the southern Netherlands.

A chain of large, irregular lakes left by gravel dredging spreads north of the centre, forming bold dark shapes crossed by narrow dykes.

The historic core stays compact and closely built, with short, curving streets inside a ring of wider roads that mark its former edge.
