Rolândia Map Poster & Print
Rolândia is a town in northern Paraná, a short distance west of Londrina. It grew in the 1930s as part of the settlement of the region, when land companies cleared the forest for coffee farms. They laid out new towns along the railway and on the high ground between river valleys. From above, the town still shows that origin in its regular grid of streets and wide avenues.
Many of the first settlers came from Germany. The town takes its name from the Roland statue of Bremen, a medieval symbol of civic rights. The surrounding countryside is covered in the deep red soil northern Paraná is known for. Today that land grows mainly soybeans, maize and other crops, with patches of forest along the streams.
