Rosemead lies in the San Gabriel Valley, east of downtown Los Angeles. Like much of the valley, it is laid out on a near-perfect grid. Long commercial streets such as Rosemead Boulevard and Valley Boulevard carry traffic through a fine mesh of residential blocks. On a map the pattern is even and dense, broken only by major infrastructure.
The San Bernardino Freeway, Interstate 10, runs east to west across the city, and the Pomona Freeway, State Route 60, passes near its southern edge. To the southeast, flood-control channels and the open ground of the Whittier Narrows area add rare curves to an otherwise straight-edged composition.
Rosemead is home to the headquarters of Southern California Edison, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States.
