Rottingdean Map Poster & Print
Rottingdean is a village on the Sussex coast just east of Brighton, set in a dry chalk valley that opens directly onto the sea. On a map, the village follows this valley: the High Street runs down toward the shore, and the older streets cluster around the village green and pond, while newer housing spreads up the slopes on either side.
Along the coast, white chalk cliffs rise above the beach, with the Undercliff Walk running along their base toward Brighton. On Beacon Hill to the west stands a black smock windmill, a local landmark. The village also has literary connections: Rudyard Kipling lived here for several years, and the painter Edward Burne-Jones had a house on the green.
