Ryazhsk lies in the south of Ryazan Oblast, in the flat farming country of central Russia. It is best known as a railway junction where important lines cross, and the railway shapes the map more than anything else. Long bundles of track, sidings and curves sweep through the town, dividing it into distinct districts.
