Te mapa
Kolomna stands where the Moskva River flows into the Oka, southeast of Moscow. It is first mentioned in the chronicles in 1177 and long guarded the southern approaches to Moscow. The oldest part of town is easy to spot from above: a compact kremlin near the river, a web of quiet streets around it and the small Kolomenka river winding in from the side.
The brick kremlin was built in the early sixteenth century, and parts of its walls and towers still stand. Kolomna is also known for pastila, a traditional fruit confection now celebrated in a local museum, and for heavy engineering works that built locomotives and diesel engines. Newer districts spread away from the rivers in straighter blocks, with rail lines and factory grounds between them.
A Kolomna map poster shows the town in layers: the old centre by the water, the industrial belt, the later housing, and the broad bends of two rivers framing it all. It is a natural choice for people who grew up here and for those who know Kolomna from weekend trips out of Moscow.

The sixteenth-century fortress occupies a compact area near the Moskva. Its surviving walls enclose churches and old streets in a pattern much denser than the districts around it.
Rail lines and large works compounds, including the long-established locomotive plant, sit between the old town and the later residential districts and add broad, angular shapes.
