Te mapa
San Ramon sits in the San Ramon Valley of Contra Costa County, east of the Oakland hills and within sight of Mount Diablo. From above, the city follows the valley's long north–south axis. Interstate 680 runs through its western part, and neighbourhoods of curving streets and cul-de-sacs spread east toward the Dougherty Valley and west into the foothills.
Much of the city grew in the late twentieth century, and its planned communities give the map a looping street pattern. Bishop Ranch, a large business park, brought major corporate offices to the area. The Iron Horse Regional Trail follows a former railway route through the valley, a thin straight line through the suburbs.
A San Ramon map poster shows a very different kind of American town from the old grid cities. Its streets flow with the land, open space covers the ridges and a single freeway forms the spine. In black and white, the curves become almost ornamental, a pleasing pattern for a modern interior.
The freeway runs through the valley in the western part of the city. It is a strong straight axis, and the neighbourhoods spread out on either side of it.
The newer eastern neighbourhoods are laid out in sweeping curves and cul-de-sacs. This dense, flowing street pattern fills the valley up to the hills.
The regional trail follows a former railway corridor through San Ramon. It draws a long, continuous line across the suburban street network.
