Te mapa
Sanmu lies in the north-east of Chiba Prefecture, between the inland country around Narita and the Pacific coast. The municipality reaches the Kujūkuri shoreline, one of the longest continuous sandy beaches in Japan, so one edge of the map is a clean, nearly straight line where land meets ocean.
Inland, the landscape is low and gently rolling. Rice fields and vegetable plots sit between clusters of houses, patches of woodland and a network of narrow country roads. There is no single dense centre. Instead, small built-up areas are spread across the land, giving the map a scattered, even texture.
The area is associated with Sanbu cedar, a local variety of sugi long grown in the surrounding woods. A Sanmu map poster shows the quieter side of the Tokyo region: farmland, forest and coastline, drawn with the same care as any big-city plan.
The Pacific shore runs as a long, smooth curve along the eastern edge, one of the most striking natural lines anywhere on the Chiba coast.
Rather than one compact core, Sanmu is made up of several small built-up areas linked by country roads, which gives the map an even, open texture.
Between the settlements, paddies, vegetable fields and cedar woods fill the landscape, shown as quiet open space that balances the finer lines of the roads.
