Te mapa
Sant Andreu de la Barca lies in the Baix Llobregat, west of Barcelona, on the bank of the Llobregat river as it runs down toward the coast. The name refers to the barca, the ferry that once carried people across the river here before bridges replaced it.
From above, the town is squeezed between the river and the hills. Its residential streets climb up from the valley floor, and the flat land beside the Llobregat is taken up by transport lines and industrial estates. The A-2 motorway and the railway both pass along the valley, forming a thick bundle of parallel lines.
A Sant Andreu de la Barca map poster shows how much this landscape has been shaped by the route inland from Barcelona. You see the curving river, the tight grid of the town centre, the large blocks of warehouses and factories, and the green slopes that rise behind the last streets.
The river runs along the town's edge in a wide, curving channel. It sets one boundary of the map and explains the ferry crossing that gave the town its name.
Motorway, rail and local roads run side by side through the valley. On the poster they read as a strong band of parallel lines, sweeping past the town toward Barcelona.
The residential areas rise from the valley floor into the slopes behind. There the streets get shorter and steeper, and they bend to follow the terrain.
