Şarkîkaraağaç lies in the eastern part of Isparta province, in the high plateau of Turkey's Lakes Region, not far from Lake Beyşehir. From above it appears as a compact town. The older streets are grouped around the centre, newer housing blocks extend outwards along the main roads, and flat farmland stretches away on the plateau.
The surrounding landscape is agricultural, with fields, orchards and scattered villages linked by long rural roads. Mountains and forest rise towards the south and west. The lakes and uplands of the area give the region its name and much of its character, even where they sit just beyond the town itself.
