Satka Map Poster & Print
Satka is in Chelyabinsk Oblast in the Southern Urals, in a valley among forested ridges. It began in the mid-eighteenth century as an ironworks settlement on the Satka River. On a map the town looks elongated. Neighbourhoods extend along the river and the roads, and hills limit growth on either side.
Satka is best known for magnesite. Large deposits have been mined here for more than a century, and the Magnezit plant is one of the main producers of refractory materials in Russia. Nearby, Zyuratkul National Park protects a high mountain lake and ridges that are popular with hikers.
