Te mapa
Savage lies on the south bank of the Minnesota River in Scott County, southwest of Minneapolis. The river valley forms the town's northern edge: a wide band of floodplain, wetlands and river channel. Above the bluffs, the suburb spreads south, with a street network typical of late twentieth-century American suburbs, with curving streets, loops and cul-de-sacs around small lakes and parks.
The town's name has an unusual origin. It was renamed in the early twentieth century after Marion Savage, who owned the famous harness racehorse Dan Patch and kept his training farm here. The horse is still part of local identity, and his name appears in local places and events.
A Savage map poster shows the rhythm of a riverside suburb. The broad, empty floodplain in the north contrasts with the dense, curving streets further south, and small lakes and parks add open space between the neighbourhoods. It is a softer, more organic image than the grid of the neighbouring cities.
The river and its wide floodplain run along the north of the town, forming a broad natural edge with wetlands and very few roads.
South of the bluffs, loops and cul-de-sacs form a flowing street pattern that looks very different from the straight grids of older cities.
Small lakes, ponds and parks are scattered between the neighbourhoods, leaving open shapes that give the map breathing room.
