Senica is a district town in western Slovakia, in the Záhorie region between the Morava lowland and the first hills of the Little Carpathians and the Myjava uplands. On a map the town is compact. A small historic centre sits in the middle, and roads leave it in several directions toward the surrounding villages.
Around that centre are the kinds of districts found in many Central European towns: panel-block housing estates with their repeated geometry, streets of detached family houses, and an industrial edge beside the railway. Past the last houses the map opens into a patchwork of fields, with woodland growing thicker toward the east.
