Te mapa
Sestroretsk sits on the northern shore of the Gulf of Finland, part of St. Petersburg's Kurortny District. On a map it reads as a long strip of town between open water and forest. The coastline curves gently towards the southeast, and a line of streets runs roughly parallel to it. A thin band of beach and pine separates the houses from the sea.
Just inland, the Sestroretsky Razliv spreads out as a large, irregular reservoir. It was created in the early eighteenth century to power an arms works founded under Peter the Great, and the town grew up around it. The Sestra River and a network of channels connect the reservoir to the gulf. Together they draw a set of watery lines through an otherwise quiet grid of streets.
A Sestroretsk map poster shows how much of the town is shaped by water. The gulf runs along one edge, the reservoir lies behind the streets, and small canals run between them. The Razliv shore is also known for the hideout where Lenin stayed in the summer of 1917. On paper, the town's layout makes sense once you see the lake and sea together.
A broad reservoir created for the eighteenth-century arms works fills the inland side of the map. Its uneven shoreline and small inlets form the largest shape on the sheet.
The town's seaward edge follows a long, gentle curve of coast. In monochrome, the sandy shore and the pine belt behind it become one clean line against open water.
Narrow channels and the Sestra River link reservoir and gulf. They cut thin lines across the street pattern and show where the town's early industry drew its power.

People hang this map to remember summers on the gulf, a dacha by the reservoir, or a childhood spent north of St. Petersburg. The mix of sea, lake and forest edge gives the print a quiet, open shape that suits a calm room.
