Shangkou lies on the flat plain of north-central Shandong, not far inland from Laizhou Bay. The land here is low and nearly level. From above, the town shows as a compact core of streets and low buildings. Around it, long field boundaries, irrigation ditches and village clusters repeat almost to the horizon.
