Sheki Map Poster & Print
Sheki lies on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus in northwestern Azerbaijan. On a map the town follows a valley that climbs northward into forested mountains. The newer district spreads over the lower, flatter ground. The historic town stretches up the slope along a stream, a narrow ribbon of winding lanes, walled courtyards and houses set into the hillside.
Sheki was an important stop on caravan routes and a centre of silk production. At the upper end of the old town stands the fortress enclosing the Palace of the Shaki Khans, an eighteenth-century residence known for its painted interiors and shebeke windows of coloured glass in wooden lattices. The historic centre was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2019.
A Sheki map poster shows this long uphill shape clearly. Streets are tight and irregular in the old quarter and more regular below. The fortress walls form an outline at the top, and the mountains close in on both sides. In black and white the town looks like a single thread drawn up into the hills.

Old town lanes
Narrow, winding streets climb the valley along the stream. Their tight, irregular pattern is typical of an old Caucasian caravan town.

Forested ridges rise on both sides and to the north, so the built-up area is pressed into a long, climbing strip.
