Te mapa
Shimada lies on the broad plain around Kumamoto in central Kyushu. As in much of this part of Japan, the view from above shows a dense weave of narrow residential lanes. Rectangular farm plots and irrigation channels sit between them, and a few wider roads run straight through to link the area with the rest of the prefecture. The land is mostly flat, with higher ground visible toward the east.
The Kumamoto region is known for its castle city and for the volcanic landscape of Mount Aso further inland. Places like Shimada show the everyday side of the prefecture: houses, fields and local roads packed closely together, with little empty space between them. It is the kind of neighbourhood that looks modest on the ground but turns into a detailed, almost textile pattern on a map.
A Shimada map poster draws out that texture. Short lanes, small blocks and the lines of the farm plots fill the frame evenly. A few through-roads give the eye something to follow across the print. It is a restrained, detailed piece that rewards a closer look.
Narrow residential streets form small, irregular blocks. From above they create a dense, even texture typical of towns on Japanese plains.
Rectangular fields and irrigation lines sit among the houses. They add straight edges and small open spaces to the pattern of the map.
A few wider roads cross the area in clear lines. They connect Shimada with the rest of the Kumamoto plain and give the composition structure.

Koteā ko Shimada
The poster suits someone who has lived in Shimada, has family in Kumamoto, or simply likes the intricate street patterns of Japanese towns. The fine detail sits quietly on a wall and still holds up when you look closer.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised, so you might add a name in Japanese or a meaningful date. Choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, then take the $9 HD files or a printed poster.
