Te mapa
Shunyi is a district in northeastern Beijing, on flat land along the Chaobai River. From above, the most noticeable feature is Beijing Capital International Airport. Its long parallel runways and large terminals take up a big area in the southwest of the district. The older centre of Shunyi sits further north, with a grid of wide roads spreading out from it.
The Chaobai River runs roughly north to south through the district, with broad floodplains and parkland along its banks. Next to the river is the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park, built for the 2008 Games. Its straight rowing course appears on the map as a long, narrow rectangle of water. Expressways and ring roads link the district to central Beijing.
A Shunyi map poster is made of large, confident shapes: runways, straight water, broad avenues and clusters of villa streets that curve in loops and cul-de-sacs. It looks very different from a map of Beijing's old hutong centre. The patterns are the scale of the modern city, arranged along a slow river.
The parallel runways and taxiways of Beijing Capital International Airport form a very clear geometric block in the southwest of the district, larger than many neighbourhoods.
Built for the 2008 Olympics beside the Chaobai River, the rowing course is a long, straight strip of water. On the map it looks almost as if it were drawn with a ruler.
The river runs through the district with wide green banks and floodplain parks on both sides. It softens the grid of avenues and expressways around it.

Koteā ko Shunyi
Shunyi means something to many people: those who live in its suburbs, those who work at the airport, and anyone whose trips to China begin and end on those runways. The large, clean forms suit contemporary interiors.
