Shyorongi lies in Rwanda's Northern Province, a short distance north of Kigali along the road toward the north of the country. This is typical Rwandan hill country, and the map records it: roads that follow ridges and contour lines, settlements spread along slopes, and valley floors given over to cultivation.
There is no rigid grid here. The main road curves with the terrain, and smaller paths branch off to reach homes and farms on neighbouring hillsides. Seen from above, the pattern is organic and branching, closer to the veins of a leaf than to a city plan, and each line reflects the lie of the land.
