Te mapa
Sidi Khaled lies in the Ouled Djellal province of Algeria, in the pre-Saharan country south of the Aurès and the Hodna. The town grew beside the Oued Djedi, a seasonal river that crosses the northern Sahara, and its shape on the map is tied to that watercourse and to the irrigated palm groves that follow it.
The older part of town forms a close-grained mass of narrow lanes and courtyard houses, typical of Saharan oasis settlements built for shade. Around it, newer districts are laid out on straighter lines along the main roads, and beyond them the gardens appear as a textured band before the land opens into bare steppe and desert.
The town takes its name from Khalid ibn Sinan, a figure venerated in the region, whose mausoleum stands here and has long drawn visitors. A Sidi Khaled map poster captures the contrast that defines oasis towns everywhere: settlement and gardens pressed densely against water, set within a great deal of open, quiet space.
The seasonal riverbed traces a long line past the town, and on the map it explains everything else: where the gardens are, where the settlement began, and which way it grew.
The historic core appears as a compact tangle of short, irregular lanes, a pattern shaped by heat and privacy rather than traffic, and very different from the newer streets around it.
Irrigated gardens form a soft, finely divided zone at the edge of town, a transition between streets and open desert that reads especially well in black and white.

Koteā ko Sidi Khaled
For people with family roots in Sidi Khaled, or those who have visited the mausoleum, this is a way to keep the town's particular geometry close. It also works simply as a striking image of how an oasis organises itself.
