Te mapa
Sidi Okba lies southeast of Biskra, on the edge of the Algerian Sahara, and takes its name from Uqba ibn Nafi, the Arab commander who led early campaigns across North Africa in the seventh century. His tomb is housed in the town's mosque, one of the oldest Islamic buildings in the Maghreb, and the old town grew up around it.
From above, Sidi Okba shows the classic form of a Saharan oasis. A tight core of narrow lanes and small courtyard houses sits at the centre, while palm groves spread around it in a patchwork of plots divided by irrigation channels and paths. The contrast between dense housing and cultivated gardens gives the map a strong, textured character.
Newer districts extend outward in more regular blocks along the main roads, including the route to Biskra. Beyond them, the desert opens up in wide, empty space. A Sidi Okba map poster captures this balance of old lanes, cultivated palms and arid surroundings, a form shaped over centuries by water and climate.
The historic mosque stands at the heart of the old town, its compact footprint surrounded by winding lanes that grew up around it over many centuries.
Date palm gardens surround the settlement in small irregular plots, divided by paths and water channels that form a fine mesh on the map.
The main road runs northwest toward the regional capital, a straight line that anchors the newer neighbourhoods on the edge of the oasis.
