Sikandarābād lies in Bulandshahr district in western Uttar Pradesh, on the flat, fertile doab between the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. From above, the old town is a dense knot of narrow lanes, with larger roads leaving it in several directions. Beyond the built-up area, the land is divided into small rectangular fields and crossed by irrigation channels.
The town takes its name from Sikandar Lodi, the Delhi sultan of the late fifteenth century. Today it is close to the expanding edge of the National Capital Region, and an industrial area has grown alongside the older settlement. The contrast between the tight historic lanes and the wider, straighter roads of newer development shows clearly on the map.
