Simití Map Poster & Print
Simití is a town in the south of Bolívar department, in Colombia's Magdalena river lowlands. It sits on the edge of the Ciénaga de Simití, a large shallow wetland lake connected to the river system. From above, the town is a small grid of streets pressed against the water, with the open surface of the ciénaga filling a large part of the view.
It is one of the older settlements in the region, dating from the colonial period, and the area around it has long depended on fishing, farming and, toward the Serranía de San Lucas to the west, gold mining. Travel here still often means river and lake routes as well as roads.
