Te mapa
South Elmsall is a town in the Wakefield district of West Yorkshire, built up around coal mining. Frickley Colliery employed a large share of the local workforce until it closed in 1993, and the map still shows traces of that industry. Long rows of terraced streets sit close together near the centre, laid out to house mining families within walking distance of the pit.
The town is served by two stations on the Wakefield Line, South Elmsall and Moorthorpe, and the rail corridors cut clean lines through the built-up area. Beyond the housing, open farmland and former colliery land frame the town, with the neighbouring settlement of South Kirkby close enough that the two almost merge on the map. The local football club, Frickley Athletic, plays in the town.
A South Elmsall map poster reflects how a mining community was organised: dense terraces, a practical high street, rail lines for coal and people, and the fields that were always close by. For anyone with family ties to the Yorkshire coalfield, it is a map that carries a lot of meaning.

South Elmsall and Moorthorpe stations sit on the Wakefield Line, and the rail corridors draw long, confident lines across the whole composition.
Around the town, open fields and former mining land create broad quiet areas that frame the dense housing and recall the pit that shaped the place.
