Te mapa
Tage'erqi is a town in the far southwest of Xinjiang, in the oasis country of the Tarim Basin near the Yarkand area. Here, life depends on water brought down from the mountains, and that dependence is visible from above in every line of the landscape.
The map is made of long, straight roads and irrigation channels that divide the land into rectangular plots, usually lined with rows of poplars. Settlements gather along these routes rather than in a single dense core, so the town reads as a network of lanes and villages spreading across the cultivated plain.
A Tage'erqi map poster turns this agricultural geometry into a calm, abstract image. There are no dramatic coastlines or old walls, only the patient order of an oasis, where roads, fields and canals are laid out with the discipline needed to farm at the edge of one of the world's great deserts.
Straight canals and field boundaries cross the plain in a repeated rectangular pattern, the defining texture of oasis farming in the Tarim Basin.
Houses and compounds line the roads in long strings, so the built area forms thin threads instead of a compact centre.
Beyond the cultivated land the map empties out, and that sudden absence of lines marks where irrigation ends and the arid basin begins.

Koteā ko Tage'erqi
For people with roots in southern Xinjiang, this map preserves the shape of home in a way photographs rarely do. For others, it is simply a striking study of how water organises land.
