Te mapa
Tamarac lies in Broward County in South Florida, north-west of Fort Lauderdale. Seen from above, it is a patchwork of planned neighbourhoods separated by wide arterial roads, with curving residential streets, cul-de-sacs and numerous small lakes and canals that manage water in the flat, low-lying landscape. Not far to the west, suburban development gives way to Everglades conservation land.
The city was founded in the early 1960s by developer Ken Behring and grew as a community popular with retirees, laid out around golf courses and garden-style housing. Over time it has become a more mixed residential city, but the original planning still shapes its map, with fairways and lakes woven between the streets.
A Tamarac map poster reveals that engineered South Florida pattern in fine detail: the straight lines of Commercial Boulevard and University Drive, the looping streets within each neighbourhood, and the many water bodies filling the gaps. In a monochrome style, canals and golf courses become clean, calm shapes spread across the frame.
Drainage canals and small lakes run throughout the city, appearing as open shapes and lines between the curving residential streets.
Several communities are arranged around fairways, their streets wrapping around long open greens that form distinctive voids on the map.
Wide roads such as Commercial Boulevard divide the city into large blocks, each containing its own inward-looking pattern of streets.
