Te mapa
Tamazunchale lies in the Huasteca region of San Luis Potosí, where the coastal lowlands give way to the first ridges of the Sierra Madre Oriental. The town follows the Moctezuma River, and its streets are shaped by the terrain: they bend around slopes, switch back up hillsides and pinch together wherever the valley narrows. Very little of the plan is straight for long.
The old Mexico City to Laredo highway runs through the town, and for decades travellers knew Tamazunchale as a stop in the sub-tropical mountains on that route. The region is also known for Xantolo, the Huasteca's Day of the Dead celebrations, which bring altars, music and masked dances to towns across the area.
A Tamazunchale map poster captures a place where geography draws the lines. The river curves through the frame, the highway threads along it, and the neighbourhoods spread out in irregular fingers wherever the land allows. It is a map with movement in it, quite unlike the orderly grids of Mexico's central plateau.
The river loops through the valley floor and sets the direction of the whole town, forming the strongest single line on the poster.
The historic Mexico City to Laredo route winds through town, following the river valley and linking the Huasteca to the north and the central highlands.
Residential streets bend and climb across steep slopes, producing an irregular, organic pattern that reads beautifully in fine black lines.

Koteā ko Tamazunchale
Tamazunchale is the kind of place people carry with them after they leave, whether they grew up there or passed through on the mountain road. A map of its river and hillsides is a calm reminder of green country and a particular way of life.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital HD files cost $9 and include six print sizes, or order a printed poster on matte paper with an optional wooden frame.
