Hai River mouth
The river loops through the district before reaching the sea, and its final bends give the map a soft, organic line that contrasts with the straight quays around it.

Te mapa
Tanggu sits at the eastern edge of Tianjin, where the Hai River finishes its winding course across the North China Plain and empties into Bohai Bay. From above, the district reads as a meeting of two geometries: the river's loose, looping curves on one side and the hard, straight edges of harbour basins, piers and breakwaters on the other. Much of the coastline here has been engineered rather than left natural.
The Port of Tianjin, one of the busiest in northern China, dominates the seaward half of the map. Long rectangular docks cut into land that was once tidal flat, and rail sidings and container yards fill the spaces between them. Inland, residential blocks follow a broad grid, while older streets cluster closer to the river, where the town first grew around shipping.
Near the river mouth stand the Dagu Forts, fortifications that saw fighting during the Opium Wars in the nineteenth century. Since 2009 Tanggu has been part of the Binhai New Area, though the name remains in everyday use. A Tanggu map poster captures that layered identity: a historic river mouth, a working harbour and a modern district still extending its shoreline into the bay.
The river loops through the district before reaching the sea, and its final bends give the map a soft, organic line that contrasts with the straight quays around it.
Rectangular docks and long piers of the Port of Tianjin reach into Bohai Bay, forming a comb-like pattern that is the most recognisable shape on any map of Tanggu.
Much of the shoreline has been built out from former tidal flats, so the edge of the land here is ruled and angular rather than the irregular outline of a natural coast.

Koteā ko Tanggu
For people who have worked in shipping, lived near the port or have family ties to Tianjin's coast, this map is a quiet reminder of a place defined by water and trade. In black and white, the contrast between river curves and dock geometry becomes the main subject.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a year or a family name, and a coordinates line, then choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the industrial harbour especially well, as a digital file or a printed poster.
