Te mapa
Tanjungbalai sits on low coastal land on the east side of North Sumatra, at the meeting of the Asahan and Silau rivers. On a map the town is shaped by water: the rivers wind through and around it, their banks lined with streets and settlements, and the Asahan continues a short distance to the sea at the Strait of Malacca.
It has long been a fishing and trading port, and its position facing the Malay Peninsula across the strait has kept it tied to maritime routes for generations. The built-up centre is compact, and beyond it a landscape of river channels, estuary and low farmland comes close on every side, so the town feels closely bound to its setting.
A Tanjungbalai map poster turns this setting into a composition of curves: the looping rivers, the streets that follow them, and the widening estuary heading toward open water. It is a gentle, organic image rather than a rigid grid, and it rewards a style with good contrast between land and water.
The Asahan and Silau rivers join at the town, and their meeting forms the natural focal point of the map, with streets spreading out along the banks.
Downstream the Asahan widens as it approaches the coast, drawing a broad channel that leads the eye out of the town toward the Strait of Malacca.
Roads and lanes follow the curves of the riverbanks rather than a strict grid, giving the town an irregular, flowing pattern typical of Sumatran river ports.

Koteā ko Tanjungbalai
For anyone who grew up by these rivers or now lives far from them, a map of Tanjungbalai is a quiet reminder of home. Its winding waterways give even a small print a distinctive, recognisable shape.
