Te mapa
Tena is the capital of Napo Province in Ecuador, set where the eastern slopes of the Andes flatten into the Amazon basin. The town grew around the confluence of the Tena and Pano rivers, and the map shows it clearly: a compact grid of streets squeezed between the two channels, with bridges carrying the town across the water.
Tena is widely known as a base for whitewater rafting and kayaking on the rivers of the upper Napo basin, and as a gateway to Kichwa communities and rainforest lodges further east. A small wooded island at the confluence is kept as a park, and it appears as a green gap in the middle of the town.
A Tena map poster is shaped by water. Two rivers split the town into sections, roads follow the valley floors, and the built-up area thins quickly into forest. The linework is lively and irregular, a clear contrast with the neat grids of the highlands. It suits anyone who has spent days on the rivers here.
The Tena and Pano rivers meet in the heart of town, dividing the streets into distinct sections and forming the main shape of the map.
Road and pedestrian bridges link the neighbourhoods on either bank, short straight lines that stitch the town together across the water.
A small wooded island near the confluence stays undeveloped, leaving a quiet space among the surrounding streets.

Koteā ko Tena
Travellers who rafted the upper Napo, volunteers who stayed a season and families from Napo Province all have reasons to keep Tena on the wall. The river shapes make a map that feels like the place.
