Te mapa
Tioman lies in the South China Sea off the coast of Pahang in Peninsular Malaysia. It is steep and heavily forested, with rugged hills in the interior. Its villages sit along the shore in a string of small bays facing west toward the mainland. On a map the land is almost all green slope, and the built-up areas appear as short strips along the coast.
Most of the villages are linked by boat, although one road crosses the island from Tekek on the west coast to Juara on the east. Tioman lies within a marine park and is well known for diving and snorkelling. At the southern end, two sharp peaks rise close together. Local legend ties them to a dragon princess who rested here.
A Tioman Island map poster makes a crisp composition of all this: an elongated island, a single road climbing through the hills, a scalloped row of bays along the western shore and small islands offshore. It is a quiet reminder of a trip for divers and travellers, and it looks as good in Noir as it does in Sand.
Tekek, Air Batang, Salang and other small villages sit in bays along the western shore, forming a row of short, separate clusters.
A road climbs from the west coast over the forested hills to Juara on the eastern side. It is the most visible line across the island's interior.
Two steep peaks rise near the island's southern end. They stand out on the map and form the island's most recognisable profile from the sea.

Koteā ko Tioman Island
Tioman appeals to divers who logged their first dives in its marine park, families who return to the same bay every year and travellers who crossed from Mersing. The simple, forested outline brings back a specific place without feeling like a souvenir.
