Te mapa
Tokār is a town in Red Sea State in north-eastern Sudan, a short distance inland from the coast south of Port Sudan. It stands near the Tokar Delta, a wide, flat plain formed by the Baraka River, which flows down from the highlands of Eritrea. The river's seasonal floods spread across the delta and made it possible to farm in otherwise very dry country.
During the twentieth century, the delta became known for growing cotton with this floodwater. The area is also known for strong seasonal winds that carry sand and dust across the plain. On a map, the town is a modest cluster of streets, with the delta's broad, shallow drainage lines spreading beyond it toward the sea.
A Tokār map poster is a spare composition: a compact town, a few roads leading toward the coast and Port Sudan, and a lot of open ground marked only by the faint channels of the delta. It suits anyone connected to this part of the Red Sea coast.
The Baraka River spreads out into a wide, fan-shaped delta. Its faint, branching channels are the main natural pattern around the town on the map.
The town's streets form a small, dense cluster in open land, clearly outlined against the empty plain around it.
Roads leave town toward the Red Sea coast and north to Port Sudan, long lines that give the sparse map its sense of direction.

Koteā ko Tokār
Tokār is a place many Sudanese families left for Port Sudan, Khartoum or abroad. A map of the town and its delta keeps that origin visible, with a composition that is spare and dignified and fits well in a modern home.
