Umutara Map Poster & Print
Umutara is the historical name for the area of north-eastern Rwanda around Nyagatare, which was its own province until the administrative reform of 2006. The landscape is unlike Rwanda's steep, terraced west. The hills here are lower and gentler, the land is drier, and much of it has long been used for grazing cattle.
On a map, the settled area appears as a loose network of roads and blocks in a broad, open setting. Tracks run out across the grassland toward farms and smaller settlements, and valleys with seasonal streams add soft lines between the ridges. The main impression is of space, with the town as a modest cluster of streets in the middle.
