Serras de Valongo
The ridges east of the town are almost free of streets and read as broad blank bands on the map, broken only by trails and the thin line of the river.

Te mapa
Valongo sits just east of Porto, close enough to belong to the metropolitan area but with a distinctly different landscape. The town spreads along the valley floor, its streets dense near the centre and following the main roads outwards, while to the east the Serras de Valongo rise in parallel ridges that leave the map almost empty of streets.
Those hills of slate and quartzite were mined for gold in Roman times, and old galleries can still be found in them. They now form part of the Parque das Serras do Porto. In the town itself, Valongo is known for its bakers, who have long made regueifa bread and the biscuits that carry the town's name.
A Valongo map poster captures the point where a city's suburbs meet open upland. The Ferreira river cuts through the hills in a narrow valley, and the contrast between the tight urban fabric and the untouched ridges gives the design a strong sense of direction.
The ridges east of the town are almost free of streets and read as broad blank bands on the map, broken only by trails and the thin line of the river.
The Ferreira cuts through the hills in a narrow, winding valley, one of the most distinctive natural lines on the edge of the Porto metropolitan area.
Main roads and the Douro railway line run westward towards Porto, drawing the town into the wider city and giving the map a clear east–west axis.

Koteā ko Valongo
Valongo appeals to people who know both sides of it: the everyday town and the hills where they walk, run or cycle at weekends. It is a good choice for anyone who has moved away from Porto's edge and wants to remember it.
