Vila-seca lies just west of Tarragona on the Catalan coast. From above the municipality has two parts: the historic town inland, with a compact centre of narrow streets around its castle and church, and the coastal district of La Pineda, a strip of apartment blocks and hotels along a long, straight beach. Between them are farmland, roads and industrial areas.
The Costa Daurada is known for its wide sandy beaches, and La Pineda is one of its main resorts. Part of the PortAventura theme park lies within Vila-seca's boundaries, next to Salou. Behind the coast, the land rises gently towards the hills, and the town's older street pattern reflects its long agricultural history.
