Te mapa
Villa Gesell is a beach town on the Atlantic coast of Buenos Aires Province. It was founded in the 1930s by Carlos Gesell, who stabilised the shifting coastal dunes by planting pines and other trees. That effort shaped both the landscape and the town's appearance. Much of Villa Gesell is set among woodland rather than on open sand.
From above, the town is unusual for Argentina. Instead of a strict grid, many streets curve and bend with the old dunes, especially in the residential and wooded areas. Closer to the centre the pattern becomes more regular, with blocks running parallel to the shore. Along the coast, a long, straight beach forms the town's eastern edge.
A Villa Gesell map poster captures that contrast between the straight line of the sea and the winding streets inland. The town fills with holidaymakers in summer and quiets down for the rest of the year. On paper, it looks like a place carved out of dunes and forest, bounded by open water on one side.
In the wooded neighbourhoods, streets curve and loop around the old dune landscape, creating an irregular pattern rare among Argentine coastal towns.
The Atlantic shoreline runs as a long, nearly straight line along the town's eastern side, a clean boundary between the street network and the open sea.
Pine woods planted to hold the dunes surround the town, giving the map wide green spaces that frame the streets on the landward side.
