Te mapa
Weston is at the western edge of Broward County in South Florida, where suburban development ends and the Everglades begin. It was developed as a master-planned community from the 1980s onward and incorporated as a city in 1996. The plan shows it immediately: few straight lines, many looping streets and small residential enclaves, each built around its own water.
Lakes and canals are everywhere on the map. The land here was drained and shaped, so the ponds dug for fill and stormwater now form a network of smooth, irregular shapes between the neighbourhoods. Major highways mark the city's eastern side, while the western edge meets the vast, nearly empty expanse of the Everglades conservation areas.
A Weston map poster turns suburbia into an unexpectedly graphic image. The curving streets, loops and lakes make an almost organic pattern, quite different from the grids of older Florida cities. It suits families who raised children here, people who moved from South America or elsewhere and made Weston home, or anyone who likes the look of planned communities from above.
Dozens of lakes and ponds sit between the residential areas. Their smooth, rounded shapes dominate the map and give it an unusually soft texture.
Instead of a grid, streets curve, loop and end in cul-de-sacs, so each neighbourhood forms its own closed, flowing pattern.
To the west, development stops abruptly at the Everglades, and a hard line separates the dense suburb from wide, empty wetland.

Koteā ko Weston
People hang this map to remember the neighbourhood where their children grew up or where they settled after moving to Florida. The lakes and loops make it recognisable to anyone who has driven its streets, yet it works as an abstract design as well.
Add a title, subtitle and coordinates, for example the name of your community or the year you moved in. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 files include 18×24″ and 24×36″, and matte prints can be framed.
